The holiday home

Stay in the middle
of the grove.

Olive trees on every side, a pool, a very large deck, and no neighbours close enough to hear the kids.

The house sits right in the centre of the olive grove — trees out every window, lawn in every direction, and a long gravel drive between you and the road. It was built to be lived in comfortably rather than photographed, which means it is warm, light, quiet, and easy to relax in with a family.

Most people arrive planning to visit wineries and end up spending half the trip on the deck. That is generally the correct decision.

Inside

Every window looks at olive trees

Open-plan living and dining opening straight onto the veranda through French doors, a proper kitchen you can actually cook a holiday meal in, and solar panels on the roof doing the heavy lifting.

  • Open-plan living, dining and kitchen
  • French doors onto a sheltered north-facing veranda
  • Solar powered, with a log burner for cold nights
  • Fast enough internet to work from, if you must

Outside

The pool, the deck, and a lot of grass

The pool and its deck are the newest additions and they have changed how the place gets used — breakfast outside, swim, lunch outside, swim again. Shade sails keep the worst of the afternoon sun off, and the glass balustrade means you can keep an eye on small swimmers from the dining table.

  • Swimming pool with glass safety fencing
  • Large hardwood deck and outdoor dining setting
  • Trampoline and acres of mown lawn
  • Barbecue, and outdoor seating that catches the sunset

For the kids

Space to do slightly ridiculous things

There is room here to do the sort of things that are impossible in town. Bottle rockets go up over the grove. Experiments run after dark, because the dark is genuinely dark. There are apples to pick, a vegetable patch that occasionally produces something absurd, and three tractors that are endlessly interesting to anyone under about fifteen.

We are very relaxed about children. The place was built around a family and it shows.
